Data source

All premiums come from the official open-data publications of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH): the premium file «Prämien_CH» (opendata.bagnet.ch), the postal-code-to-premium-region mapping and the list of licensed health insurers (priminfo.admin.ch). No premiums are estimated, filled in or supplied by insurers.

Data year and updates

Currently loaded is premium year 2026 (premiums approved by the FOPH; dataset imported on 2026-07-06). The FOPH publishes the following year's premiums each autumn; the dataset is then fully re-imported in October and the displayed premium year switches over.

Coverage

The comparison covers all insurers and tariffs contained in the FOPH publication for compulsory basic insurance (KVG):

  • all 26 cantons and all FOPH premium regions (mapped via postal code; if a postal code spans several regions, the region with the most localities applies)
  • all three age classes: children (up to 18), young adults (19–25), adults (26+)
  • all deductible levels: CHF 0–600 for children, CHF 300–2500 for adults and young adults
  • with and without accident cover
  • all insurance models per FOPH tariff type: standard (free choice of doctor), family doctor, HMO, Telmed plus other models

Sorting and ranking

Results are sorted by price only, ascending. Per insurer, the cheapest tariff of the selected model is shown (across all models for «cheapest option»). No insurer pays for a better position; the intermediation compensation (see About us) has no influence on the order – the code simply has no sorting criterion other than the premium.

Savings calculation

The savings potential is (current monthly premium − cheapest monthly premium) × 12, rounded to whole francs. It is only calculated like-for-like: same deductible, same accident cover, same age class, same region. If you adjust the deductible in the results, we deliberately show no savings versus your own figure. If your entered premium is below the cheapest offer, we show an input check instead of a saving. If you state your current insurer and model instead of a premium, that insurer's cheapest matching tariff serves as the estimated baseline – labelled as such.

Break-even formula (deductible comparison)

Above the deductible, a coinsurance of 10% of further costs applies, legally capped at CHF 700 per year for adults and CHF 350 for children. The break-even between the lowest and highest deductible is the yearly health-cost amount C* at which both cost the same: C* = low deductible + (yearly premium saving of the high deductible) ÷ 0.9. If your expected costs are below it, the higher deductible is cheaper; above it, the lower one. The hospital contribution of CHF 15 per day is not part of the calculation.

Known limitations

  • Your insurer's policy and premium decision are solely authoritative – the comparison is information, not a quote.
  • Payment-mode discounts (e.g. annual invoice), family discounts or insurer-specific specials are not considered.
  • Supplementary insurance (VVG) is not part of the comparison.
  • The individual premium reduction (IPV) of your canton is not included.
  • Binding quotes can only be arranged with partner insurers; the comparison shows the whole market regardless.
